Chauchilla cemetery Mommy

The dry desert weather has preserved this mummy for 2000 years.  They cut arms and legs before the mummification process otherwise the body gets rigid to put it in fetal position. The organs were also taken out before the preservation and burial. The mummy faces the East - closer to God. Food and drinks surround the mummy for the next life. Elongated head and long hair were symbolic of power and beauty and only Shaman or people with status were allow to have them.
