We had our biggest hotel room ever last night after we checked back in Radisson New Delhi. The manager greeted us warmly and upgraded us to their "Presidential Suite"! The suite is so huge that I did an video tour of the place! It's likely that Yiling had given them a great review but expressed disappointment at the shower door that leaked all over the floor.
However, our sleep came to an abrupt end when we were rudely awoken by what we thought was an earthquake! The whole building was shaking to its foundation. We soon found out it was due to road paving in front of the hotel, in the middle of the night, using heavy machineries! Only in India! Yiling also found that even the shower water had turned red from all the sediments shaken loose inside the water pipes!
We flew to Colombo from Delhi on Air India. Their "flagship" lounge in the Delhi airport was a write-off. It makes our bare minimum Air Canada lounges feel luxurious in comparison!
Our driver greeted us on time at Colombo and drove us to Kandy, the Second city in Sri Lanka. Although Kandy is a mere 110 km from Colombo Airport, the drive took over 3 hours due to the heavy single lane traffic. Tuk-tuk or auto-rickshaws rule the road. Although they are slower, they don't make room for others to pass. This is one reason I decided to rent a car and driver instead of driving myself.
We were totally surprised to see sunshine after landing. From the weather forecast we had been following, it would seem like everyday is rain rain and more rain with 20-30mm daily. The reality is actually good hot sunny weather in the first half of the day followed by gradual cloudiness and thunderstorms in the evening. We were treated to our first heavy thunderstorm with beautiful lightening when we were driving to Kandy.
