Singapore

After two days of the conference, I managed to explore the city and took in the iconic sites, sounds and the local food. The heat and humidity are still challenging to get used to but I think my adjustment is gradually getting better each day. Unfortunately, the weather had been unpredictable with thunder storm and heavy rain during the three days we stayed in Singapore. The rain provided a bit of relief to the heat but it is still very humid.

Our friends, William and Sandra, took us to sample some of the local food e.g., shrimp noodles, Buah Keluak (nut that turned into a black source to cook the chicken), Rojak (an Indian dish that lumps all sort of fruits and Chinese donuts with a unique sauce). Of course, coconut drinks and durian. Richard was very happy to be able to sample FRESH durian. There were many of them sold by the street vendors and they open the durian for you and you can eat it right away.

The jet lag was less of a problem than anticipated, despite the fact that I had to attend two full days of conference the next morning and it did not finish till 5:30 pm each day and it left very little time to explore the city. The conference topics were quite interesting and kept my neurons firing and had help me to stay awake the whole time. I am sure those coffee/tea that they kept serving us helped a lot as well.
