Despite there was no heater in our room, it wasn't as cold as we had feared. What came as a surprise was the difficulties both of us had with breathing at this lower altitude (4200m) when we had no issues at higher altitude earlier (upto 5000m).
The view from our room was simply gorgeous. We could watch sunrise over Lake Titicaca without leaving our room! The lovely hotel breakfast was served in their tiny restaurant with similar lovely view of the lake and snowy mountains.
We did a bit of hiking after breakfast but could not cross over to the north side of the island. Apparently, the residents on the north and south communities were having a dispute of some sort and tourists were targeted. It's some kind of economic blockade. We ended up hiking to the lookout on the southern tip of the island and stayed there for quite some time to soak in the idyllic sceneries and watched the coming and going of the boat traffic.
This is our second visit to Lake Titicaca (and probably our last) and we still love every single moment of it. We were only able to catch a glimpse of the imposing snowy mountains in Bolivia on our last visit in the Peruvian side of the lake. This time, we had a front row seat to this majestic mountain range overlooking the lake.
The boat ride back to Copacabana and bus ride to La Paz were uneventful. We were able to have dinner and get inside the cathedral while in Copacabana. We are hoping for a few nights of good hotel to recuperate before heading back to Chile.
Beautiful lake ! Happy Birthday Mary !! Or where you are: Feliz cumpleaños !
