Guayaquil is Ecuador's biggest city and its main port. It is situated on the Pacific coast and is Ecuador's commercial heart. After a rushed breakfast this morning, we were driven to the Seymour Airport to take our flight to Guayaquil. The airport in Guayaquil is surprisingly small for a city of 2 millions. The wifi coverage is poor and the information desk ladies were very unfriendly. Since no one answered the phone at the Radisson Hotel to dispatch the hotel shuttle, we took a taxi to the hotel. Our room was upgraded to a suite due to my platinum status and it had a wonderful riverfront view. After we enjoyed the drinks offered in the terrace, we took a taxi to Santa Ana district and walked up the steps to the historic lighthouse. After 444 steps, the view from the top of the lighthouse was simply sublime. We had a panoramic 360 degree view of the whole city and its riverfront.
The broadwalk along Rio Guayas was filled with pedestrians and amusement parks. It seemed the whole city would like to take advantage of the slightly cooler temperature there to get away from the heat. As today is Yi's birthday, we decided to check out the highly recommended local restaurant by our hotel receptionist on Isla Isabela. It specialized in seafood and we were not disappointed. By the way, the Ecuadorian cerviche is very different from the Peruvian or Chilean cerviche. It is almost like a soup and served warm.
